A Song About A Song: The writing. A short background to my thinking. I was cleaning my studio and listening to Motown music. The Temps, Jackson 5, The Supremes, Four Tops, Marvin, Stevie, Gladys, Martha Reeves, Smokey Robinson etc. and I realized something. I realized that there was a certain level of respect between the two parties in the love story. No matter the subject, he respected her, she respected him, they both respected love. I thought hmmmm.....how much do we do that today? Our romantic relationships...family..munity. Hmmmm I decided that I wanted to kind of step into a time machine and write with that level of respect. To commit to it. In the end, I wanted to write something that drove the point that... 1) Love is the foundation of our families and communities at large. 2) If were going to unify, there has to be a level of love that should be revisited. 3) The Motown era (and eras just after as well as before) embodied that love. Our parents and grandparents generation. I felt like, we needed a reminder of what that love is like. 4) I wanted to say that love is timeless....the same way that music is. A song that talks about a relationship where our favorite song was from THAT era would convey that....at least in MY mind. In the end, I had a burning question. As we go about our lives, relationships. Our vices. Our habits....good and bad. Our families and friendships. The drama and our pleasures. The question hit me: What about LOVE?
