A Statement regarding the strike of more than 250 civilian and Kurdish media Workers from Kobanî city that went on hunger strike after being detained by the Turkish army forces. The open hunger strike has been continuing for last six days, which started with more than 250 civilians, all Kurds the sons and daughters of the city of Kobani, including 35 women and 36 children, who were arrested by the troops of the Turkish army after their exit from Kobanî six days ago waiting on the Turkish side of the border with the terrorist organisation of ISIL approaching Kobanî and its suburbs which has created a direct serious threat to their lives. Among those arrested are several of our colleagues, journalists and members of the Union of Free Media, such as colleague Mustafa Bali and Khazna Nabi and other media activists, as they are detained by the Turkish army forces in a closed stadium called ( Kore Ali ) in Suruch area on the Turkish border and suffering in the prison that is in a very poor living conditions and poor health. In addition they have been subjected to physical and psychological torture he also told us over the phone that colleague journalist Mustafa Bali, who spoke to us from inside the prison and confirmed to us that the conditions of ventilation are very bad inside. Guards do not allow them to get out for fresh air to keep healthy, and that some of the officers of the Turkish army threatened to slaughter and murder them adding that the argument of our arrest by the military is because we are late in going out of town of Kobanî. We who are in a Union of Free Media condemn these arrests by the Turkish army forces for the more than 250 Kurdish civilians and a group of our Free Media colleagues. The Union of Free Media hold them responsible for the deterioration of their health and their lives that are at a risk and we demand their immediate release and urgently provide them with a healthy environment. We also appeal to all humanitarian organisations, human rights and world press and the Turkish intervention to put pressure on the Turkish state; to save the lives of these civilians, journalists and to secure immediate release. 11 \ 10 \ 2014 Union of Free Media
