A Sure Way of Making Enemies – and How to Avoid It. Principle 2: Show respect for the other persons opinions. Never say, Youre wrong. The best way to make an enemy is to say, You are wrong. This accusatory stance is a strike to his intelligence and most importantly his pride. Predictably, it will make him defensive and retaliatory and the last thing he will do is agree with anything you say. If you have to tell someone that he is incorrect, you can do so with a discrete look, tone of voice or gesture. If you have to express the fact that you are right, choose your words carefully. You might say, I could be wrong. Lets consider the facts. Be tactful and patient. Let the other person have a chance to express his opinion. Give them an opportunity to admit there is a problem and offer possible solutions. Be sure that you do not fall into the trap of always thinking you are right. This destroys any hope for making friends because people will not want to be around you. You also limit your chances of learning something new. .
