A THANK YOU MESSAGE FROM THE FIRST DOMINICAN/LATINO MAYOR (2008-14) IN THE HISTORY OF RHODE ISLAND. Friends, I am writing to say thank you. I am grateful for your cooperation, support and service to our city these past four years. Our time together has often been one of challenge; yet we faced these challenges head on and are leaving Providence stronger for it. Today Providence is in a better place than it was four years ago. The city is on stable financial footing. Our economy is growing. Development is happening across the city. Unemployment stands at its lowest rate since the start of the Great Recession. We have received recognition for our efforts to innovate and improve education. And we have received national recognition as America’s Favorite City and America’s Best Small City. We have much to be proud of; yet none of this could have been achieved without you. I would like to thank the dedicated City of Providence employees, and all those who live and work in our city, who have played such an important part in moving our city forward. Thank you for being by my side these past four years as we faced some of our city’s darkest days. Providence’s success is your success. Throughout my term, I have always trained my focus on doing what is best for Providence. I’m extremely proud of what we have achieved together through cooperation and sometimes through sacrifice. When the lingering fog from the campaign season finally lifts we will look back and see that what emerged from those dark days were many of our city’s finest hours. As I prepare to leave office today, I wish you all the very best in 2015 and beyond. To paraphrase the great Mayor Tom Menino, I ask that you be as good to each other and to Mayor Elorza as you have been to me. Thank you for being by my side and for your support of the City of Providence. Sincerely, City News Angel Taveras Mayor Marilyn Cepeda, Margarita Cepeda
