A TRIBUTE TO A PHENOMENAL WOMAN You know I was inspired as a black man and as writer as I listened to all the famous black people speak of Dr. Maya Angelou. She touched so many of their lives, people like Oprah, Cicely Tyson; whom I consider one of the first great black actress, First Lady Michelle Obama, and I know there was others I didn’t hear. But what blew me away was Tyler Perry putting her in perceptive, saying how she had been involved in the Civil right movement with some of the greats including Dr. King, and he said that she remarked how Dr. King was killed on her 40th birthday, she had a legacy of touching great peoples lives before she was 40. Truly this woman was sent by God, dispatched from the heavens to be an angel on assignment. This woman Dr. Angelou walk among us, a black women, with grace, wisdom, and most of all the ability to make others want to do better, to make others want to achieve, and achieve more. Think of this black people that were great themselves felt awed, and humbled by the mere presence of this phenomenal woman. I heard part of the memorial service on my ride back from Dallas on CNN on XM radio. Just listening to it made me well up on the inside, it made me feel tremendous pride. She did so much, she touched so many lives, she penned so many great poems, and sayings, she was a great teacher of great people, and inspiration to a whole generation of women. I thank God to have lived in a time on this earth with so many great blacks, which is what that moment made me think of. There was her, Dr. King, Malcolm, Stokley Carmichael, and that is just the ones that fought the struggle. In my time I saw Sammy Davis Junior, Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Ella Fritz Gerald, and Lou Rawls. James Brown, just to name a few of the great singers that has past on. I’m just reflecting on how much blacks have played in making this generation and this planet a better place to be in. With all that we go through, and all the struggles of being black, and being oppressed these people made us feel better, they made us see our true potential they made us know that we were great, although others tried to make us different. Dr Maya Angelou may have very well been the cream on top of all this coffee, she was truly in a league of her own, if I had to just put one label beside what she was it would be angel. I just feel in my heart that is what God put her here for. Angels guide, they protect, they lift up, they inspire, and they give you a little push a little shove when needed. They have words from God, which can not be ignored. God thank you for sending such a great angel to us in this time, and in this place. Now you have allowed her to go back home to you, Dr Maya Angelou we simply love you, and yes you were a Phenomenal Woman! By Chris Brown 6/9/14
