A TRIP FROM KAMPALA TO BUKWO A friend of mind narrates his unfortunate journey to bukwo. the drive from kampala to bukwo, a remote district in Ugandans eastern region is bumpy and dusty and when it rains, it becomes slippery. the mountainous landscape, zig-zagging into cliffs and dangerious corners will terrify any visitor. after a successful journey from kampala to kapchorwa via mbale, I was certain my journey had ended. to my surprise 80km were still ahead. After a short distance I discovered why some people who had been in bukwo swear never to go back; the road is full off bumps, slopes, hills, rocks and sharp corners and some places are narrow yet drivers drove like they are on the wide road. A truck load with 50 passegers stopped and I boarded 30 min it rained heavily, people stopped and decided to return back to bukwo, I endured with other 27, then hell broke loose, the truck got stuck, we got off, tried to push, others got hoes and some spades from the truck and started luking 4 dry soil to pour on de road 2 increase frction. Pipo began 2 curse de govt they wished the 1st lady Janet Museveni had used de road de last time, she was in the area 2 launch de new radio station. she used de helicopter, I wonder wat is more important - repairing the road or setting up a radio station. one passenger said weallth is abundant in bukwo but becos of poor roads, pipo spend days on de road b4 getting market in mbale and kapchorwa. tete chelangat said minister of works $ other govt officias visted de place recently & seen hw pathetic de road is, bt has bin seen yet. I shall never step in the land of bukwo until d road is tarmacked.
