A Tale as Old as Time with NO Basis in Reality Its About Time…Change Your Language, Change Your Results I read this on a linked in contributors page…Recruiters often feel a strong sense of pride about local knowledge. I hear members saying that someone from outside the area would never understand how it works in my market. In years past, recruitment was a local business and in time the chain operations and the flexibility of the work force changed that paradigm in a big way. Today you can live almost anywhere and recruit for anything in a completely different geography. I realized at breakfast with a friend/bible teacher this morning how many negative forces we are surrounded by. Throughout my life, some friends and family wanted to warn me of the dangers of anything and everything. I dont believe these people are ill intentioned, just that spewing negativity on a regular basis has become an unconscious way of life for many. Is there such a thing as the devil and or an evil inclination? Sometimes it appears that way to me. But I have also reached a point in my life where I stay away from the people, places and things that can drag me down. I seek out the positive and I am happy to report there is an abundance of positive everywhere. This past winter I was sought out by a TV Producer to help him sell a lucrative iconic sports business which I was warned against...after all Paula you are an admitted athlete…not. True, all true, and by the way I am not anti-athletics its just that I perceive myself to be a klutz, which is why I am not a ballerina either. I was not encouraged to be an athlete or a dancer so I pursued reading, shopping and talking with a vengeance. A few weeks ago I was contacted by a Fine Jewelry executive who I had introduced myself to at an event at Saks 3 years ago! When we met he said “I will call you when I am ready to take my business to the next level “ and he did! When I asked him what there was about me, he said I was so engaging, “you when to step in and when to step back.” He sensed my integrity. If only all business development were that easy. Easy you say! Ive been doing this work for decades...its about time. Identifying buyers for valuable businesses only requires one to be a processthlete and thinkingthlete. Now thats something I do well...alas and Eureka! Something Im good at! Yippee! Hurrah and Hallelujah! Finally using skills developed over 50 years coming together to make yourself imminently qualified to be the CEO of your organization is not a fallacy, its a reality. Its about time. Dont let the naysayers tell you what you cant do, such as the recruiter who was told he/she couldnt find technologists as they had never done it before, or a candidate in Australia…after all you dont live there. As sure as shooting if you can think and have a strength in a process and/or know where to go next, you can likely do more than even you believe you can do.
