A Tbcā„¢ Throwback Album SpotlightšŸŽµ: One Ways 1982 Studio Release Of Whos Foolin Who Genre: Funk/R&B/Soul Length 37:36 Label MCA Records Producer: ADK and Irene Perkins. Whos Foolin Who is a 1982 album by the Detroit R&B band One Way. The album includes the bands highest chart appearance in the United States, Cutie Pie, which peaked at #61 on the Hot 100 (the bands only foray onto the Hot 100), #29 on the dance charts, and #4 on the R&B charts. The albums title track, Whos Foolin Who was also released as a single and was later covered by the Eurodance band, Double You. The album itself peaked #51 on the Billboard 200 and #8 on the R&B charts. Aside from 1984s #1 R&B album, Lady, this album is the highest charting in their seven-year run. Incidentally, former One Way vocalist Alicia Myers released a solo album that same year (1982) entitled I Fooled You this Time.[5] It is unclear which album (Myers or this one) was recorded first, but evidently, the similarity in album titles was intentional. Specifically, if her album was released first, then One Ways album title Whos Foolin Who can be seen as a sort of response to her album, or vice versa. Ironically, it turns out that the songs on Myers album were written and produced by One Way bandmembers, so apparently, the whole sequence of events was tongue-in-cheek, and there was no animosity between the two camps. On personal note, Ive been a fan of One Way since it was called Al Hudson and the Partners. The song You Can Do It was actually released on two of their albums. The first release was off the Happy Feet album which was on the ABC label (1979) and then released again off the One Way featuring Al Hudson when the band signed onto the MCA label. (1979) But within the many talents of this unsung band were two of the groups most talented funk producers & song writers. One was Kevin McCord and the other was Dave Robertson who spun out many of the bands most signatured hits along with its unforgettable love ballads. One Way released a string of hot albums that went unsung to a many music critics but, were popular within the black communties. I still have my collection. And cant wait to see them spin again on my long awaiting turn tables. -k j.
