A Tough Loss, but A Triumphant Future The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lords favorand the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion-- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.- Isaiah 61:1-3 A Tough Loss, but A Triumphant Future Well for those of us in Kansas City, Game 7 was a tough loss and an end to a great baseball season. I have learned that within the context of sports are great illustrations and obscure lessons on faith and life itself. However, there are those of us who can become fanatic concerning our favorite team to the point of developing and demonstrating unhealthy actions and attitudes. We must always remember that it is sports, it is a game. But life itself is more than a game. It is to be enjoyed of course, but it is also to be lived with gratitude and humility. We are only here for a moment. The reaction to our game 7 loss has been interesting, some are devastated while others are disappointed, yet thankful for a great season. This started me to think about how we respond to the losses in life. Those painful moments of grief, sadness , frustration and disappointment. How do you respond to the losses in life? Anger? Denial? Avoidance? Violence? Hopelessness? Despair? Recklessness? Well, no one is exempt from the hurts and hazards of this life, but Isaiah offers a prophetic and hopeful word to those recovering from a loss. The Lord will provide for those who grieve a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning and a garment of praise instead of the a spirit of despair. This is the prophets way of saying, that God cares, is concerned and will send victory in the place of defeat! For Christians, our moments of defeat are just that... moments. We ultimately have a King who sits on the throne in Glory who will give us the strength of oaks when the turbulent winds of adversity blow in our life. We have a great future. So today is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice in it! A tough loss last night.....but a triumphant future is ahead. Whatever your loss may be today, be it personal or public, I believe that God can restore, rebuild, revive and reclaim the broken pieces of life and fashion them into a marvelous masterpiece. You are blessed and highly favored, Pastor T
