A True Friend?? As the world marked International Day of Friendship, it really made me to think and ask myself this question, who really is a true friend? Now I dont mean the kind of friend you make on face book, were you chat and gist on what is trending...(Lol). I mean a person with whom youve developed a close and informal relationship of mutual trust and intimacy. The kind of friend you can boldly introduce to your family,as my good friend! Really such a category of relationship is not easy to come by. This is because many do not really understand that a true and close friend is more or less family. Its for this reason that a typical Latino for instance,will often choose a best friend to be the god father or god mother of his or her child. The believe is that because the person is a true friend, if the biological mother or father is not around, for any reason, there is confidence that the best friend will bring up the child with the same love like the mother or father would have done.There is an old saying in Russian: “Instead of having 100 rubles, better have 100 friends.” A Russian also gives friendship a lot of significance when raising a child because of the loyalty,faithfulness and mutual interests that such human relationship attracts. A true friend is one who watches your back, some one you can count on and you are never afraid or ashamed to pour out your heart to. If for any reason,that friend is supposed to do or be around for something that affects you, but fails and vice versa,condemnation, rejection and anger is never an option.The true friend will call and if possible virtually track down the erring friend to get answers. Hearing the other person s side of the story and never taking things for granted or jumping to conclusions are pertinent in the heart of this special individual. This is because its possible even the friend has or had issues. A true friend realizes no one is perfect and loves you no matter your the faults. This friend knows your strength and weakness, so will never join others to mock you,but will always be your biggest and die-hard fan and supporter. He or she knows what you are capable of and will always defend your honour and stand by you. Quarreling and fighting are so allowed,because its never a perfect venture. True friends always make up and laugh over it. But when a true friend back-stabs you, damn!! ( sorry, couldnt find a better expression), its so so painful and in some cases such incidents have earned some a bed in the intensive care unit of a hospital! The heart break is usually drastic and no amount of supper glue can put the pieces together. The pain is usually deep and many friends have ended up in the opposite of their relationship-true and real enemies! Some make up, but it can never be the same, because that reference ( back stab incident) could be forgiven, but might never be forgotten!! In some really exceptional cases, some true friends,no matters the issues, actually make up and move on like it never happened. Such people, truly are brave and deserve to be recognized with one of the honours Ive coined and invented (...lol) GCOTF- Grand Commander of True Friendship...lol If you have a friend with some of these qualities and more: Eg-One that has been there for you through thick and thin, hala you when you dont call and not judge you, visit you even when you never show up, remembers your birthday when you forget his or hers, Is still a darling even when you have glaring been a complete asshole ( forgive my use of language) Will punch anyone in the mouth who speaks ill about you and is a true friend in need and deed, etc, pls this is the time to honour that person!!! kindly also search yourself and find out if youve being a true friend,because its a give and take affair. If youve not done well as a friend,please repent and turn a new leaf because there are benefits inherent in true friendship!!........Ensure you appreciate that special person, as a true friend is indeed hard to find !!!!.......Well, you can also honour him or her with my new and rare honour-GCOTF:Grand Commander of True Friendship...lol
