A Violation of Faith. We are displeased that churches around the globe - mainly in Asia AND now GHANA, Nigeria and Liberia are promoting pet meat trade. There is no evidence at all that pet meat holds any form of medicinal properties. Disease and viruses are increasing in the trade thats seen many people fall ill and in some unfortunate cases people dying from consuming diseased pet meat. Four months to go before April 2015s S.N.T.D.M demonstration against the pet meat trade in Asia and Africa. While many groups and organisations have joined us we would also like to call out to all local churches and mosques around the world that would like to join our marches or hold events for us. Discrimination is not within our vocabulary, black, white, Muslim, Catholic, Christian, whatever religion, color of skin, disability you are invited. Say No To Dog Meats Donna Armes began a campaign early last year calling on the local and international churches to help us in our quest to end this barbaric trade, that poses a serious human health risk the planet should there be a virus outbreak. Say No To Dog Meat regularly publish on how some Muslim and mostly Christian individuals are consuming pet meat in churches and mosques around the globe, promoting it as a medicinal cure for many ailments. We believe this is a violation of faith and only increases promotion of pet meat within a predominately religious and trusted sector. Churches and mosques are areas of honesty and should not under any circumstances be promoting any form of medicinal lie that places human life in danger. Furthermore why are such churches and mosques promoting and encouraging ANIMAL ABUSE? This is a violation of FAITH and religious scripture! Christmas is peak time for dog meat in Vietnam and Laos because local Catholic parishioners buy dog meat for their festive celebrations. Vietnam has the 5th largest Catholic population in Asia, with approximately 6 million worshipers and 2228 parishes. NOTE: the Catholic church is NOT the only christian religion with parishioners who eat dog. LAOS: Across the Mekong River in Laos, the town Ta Rae is a known hub for illegal dog trafficking between Thailand and Vietnam and many people in Ta Rae are connected to the dog meat trade in one way or another, including dog snatchers, dog smugglers or dog traffickers. Many of them are members of Ta Raes Catholic church. The towns Catholic Priest received criticism a few years back for admitting he blesses dog traffickers before they set out on their journey transporting dogs (on the 1,000 dog truck), from Ta Rae township to the edge of the Mekong River, where the dogs are illegally smuggled across the river each night. Not only is dog meat, often referred to euphemistically as “nutritious soup,” often served at church charity functions, such as All Saints’ Day feasts, much to the horror of many congregants who have reached out to South Korean animal-protection organizations for help, but some clergy in fact breed dogs themselves for slaughter. Many of the churches have received a barrage of criticism from devoted church members, demanding the removal of dog meat from any church event. A well-documented incident took place at the Hong Eun Dong Church, which intended to sell dog meat at a school playground. The church bazaar’s theme was “Love and Sharing.” Fortunately, when Korea Animal Rights Advocates (KARA) intervened, the selling of dog meat was cancelled. KARA has also successfully blocked the sale of dog meat at other church functions. We are looking for local church and religious sectors to host events for us, join demonstrations within the area and to call out to the local and international pet meat eating community to stop consuming pets. Churches and Mosques are not a place for lies to be spread. Two of our CEOs that are strictly religious are appalled on knowing that pet meat traders, traffickers and butchers are being protected and blessed in churches within Asia and Africa to steal peoples pets, kill them then spread disease. This has to stop. No church, priest or clergy person should be promoting such trade or even allowing the consumption of pet meat within churches.
