A WARNING AGAINST SWAYERS In the Name of Allaah,The Most Merciful The Bestower of mercy A Warning Against Those Who Deliberately Sit On The Fence Between The People of Truth And Falsehood– beneficial points from an article by Ustaadh Raa-id Aala Taahir (may Allaah protect him) In times of severe trials and tribulations, one always finds those who are firm upon the truth whilst refuting falsehood and its people. They neither fear the blame of the blamers nor the attacks of the oppressors. They are firmly grounded by the tawfeeeq of Allaah–neither deliberately positioning themselves on the fence between falsehood and truth nor leaving themselves in confusion. On the other hand, there are those who champion and disseminate falsehood–they either initiate false principles in order to aid falsehood and its people or they deliberately turn away from the precise and unambiguous knowledge based proofs and detailed clarifications of the salafi scholars. They neither acknowledge truth nor refute falsehood except when it agrees with their desires. Indeed the Messenger ( sallal.laahu.alayhi wasallam ) said: ” The trials and tribulations will be presented to the hearts repeatedly just as a reed mat is interwoven stick by stick; so any heart that absorbs these trials and tribulations will have a black mark placed on it, and any heart that rejects these trials and tribulations will have a white mark placed on it, until the hearts will be two types: ( a) The heart that will be like a white stone and will not be harmed by the trials and tribulations as long as the heavens and the earth exist. (b) The dark rusty heart which is like an overturned vessel–neither able to recognise good nor reject evil, except being absorbed with its desires. [saheeh muslim] And there is a third category of people–they are neither here nor there. They go back and forth between the people of truth and falsehood–sometimes with the people of truth and at other times with the people of falsehood. They approach the people of truth with approval and with speech that pleases them, and they also approach the people of falsehood with approval and with speech that pleases them. Sometimes they walk alongside the people of truth and at other times they walk alongside the people of falsehood. Indeed this behaviour of theirs is similar to that of the munaafiqoon, “They are swaying between this and that, belonging neither to these nor to those; and whom Allaah send astray, you will not find for him a way (to the truth) ” [Nisaa ayah:143] The likes of these people have always increased in number whenever the trials and tribulations intensify against the people of truth and whenever the people of falsehood increase their attacks against the truth and its adherents. These (people deliberately sitting on the fence between haqq and baatil) are sometimes scared of the people of truth and at other times they are scared of the people of falsehood–neither are they settled in one position nor are they known to be upon clarity; rather they are very careful lest their secrets and what they hide in their hearts nanifests. However, it is not possible for them to hide completely, because their affair will either be manifested in their stances or in their affiliations and companionships. Mu’aadh bin Mu’aadh (rahimahullah ) said to Yahyah bin Saeed (rahimahullah ): “O Abaa Saeed! Even if a man hides his views, it will not be hidden in his son, his friend and the one he sits with.” Maalik bin Deenaar (rahimahullah ) said: The people are like the different species of birds– the pigeon with the pigeon, the Crow with the crow, the duck with the duck etc. And every person goes with those similar to him” It may be that the reason for this swaying back and forth is due to lack of making a distinction between truth and falsehood, and a lack of differentiating between the Awliyaa of Allaah and the awliyaa of shaytaan. So whoever is in such a state of affairs, then it is obligatory to make him acquainted with the truth and its opposite, and to make him aquainted with Ahlus Sunnah and inform him about ahlul bidah. You should provide him with clarifications backed up with clear proofs, whilst employing leniency, softness and patience; and perhaps Allaah may open his heart to guidance. However, if he persists upon falsehood and refuses to submit to the clear proofs after the truth has been made manifestly clear; rather he becomes obstinate whilst seeking for lame excuses for the people of falsehood and arguing on their behalf, and rejecting the clear manifest proofs against them or seeking after false interpretations in order to find excuses for them; then such a person is to be warned against. It is not possible to continue advising such a person or to be soft towards him; rather he is to be placed alongside those people of bidah he defends and argues for. Example: Imaam Arta-a said about the person who hated that ahlul bidah should be mentioned: “he is from them and do not be confused about his affair.” SALAFICENTRE.COM
