A WASP member asks : Im just wondering how you deal with a late diagnosis. At 46 I have just been given an aspergers diagnosis, but Asd isnt new to me. MY now 20 yr old daughter was diagnosed at 4yrs and is very classic, my 16 year old was diagnosed at 13. We knew from the age of 3 she was also on the spectrum but very different from her sister, she also has many offer difficulties and we had to have a sensory room built for her. My youngest who is nearly 7 is under diagnosis at the moment.July 2013, I had a break down and ended up hospitalised, numerous hospital admissions followed and I was eventually diagnosed with BPD, but for years my older girls have asked me to get assessed for aspergers. We have been pushing for an assessment since the first hospital admission but got told I was just stressed ( leave the family home I would feel better) depressed or angry. However a new consultant has now diagnosed me definitely. My problems at the moment is accepting it, I have no problems accepting the girls for who they are but with myself its so hard. How have I got to 46 and not known, how has no one else picked up on it. What advice to give to others I cant seem to help myself with this. Any advice gratefully received. Thank you.
