A WINTER STORM WATCH for Thursday and Friday has been issued for large area of southern and central Minnesota including the Twin Cities. A WINTER STORM WATCH means that +6 of snow or significant Ice is possible with an upcoming storm and additional warnings or advisories will be issued as the storm moves into the area. A WINTER STORM WATCH issued by the National Weather Service and alerts the public that significant snowfall or ice is possible in the next 12 to 48 hours. A WINTER STORM WARNING means that heavy snow or ice is imminent in the next 12 to 24 hours. This current WINTER STORM WATCH covers a large area of Minnesota because of some uncertainty of the exact area of heavy snow. Right now it appears the heaviest snow will be from Marshall to St.Cloud to Hinckley or along Highway 23 from southwest Minnesota into east-central Minnesota. A mix of rain and snow will lower snow amounts toward the Twin Cities and points south. The most likely time for accumulating snow in the Twin Cities is from 11 p.m. Thursday to noon Friday. Thundersnow is possible and this will greatly enhance snow totals in some areas. Partly cloudy tonight with lows in the low to mid 20s and winds becoming light and variable after midnight. Sunny Wednesday morning then becoming cloudy in the afternoon with East-Northeast winds at 5 to 15 mph and highs in the low 40s.
