A Walk In The Dark I heard this rustling in the street behind me no shadows could I see the hairs on my neck were reaching for the sky like little hands of distrust I quickened my walk and all I could hear was the tap tap of my shoes the chill in the air seemed even more pronounced my coat could not dispel The gas lights were hissing slightly as though they too were afraid I only have a few feet to get where I have to be just let me was my silent prayer Is it just my imagination or are my senses telling me to run like the wind now I look back one more time something is moving faster I hear the telltale sound I start running the few yards to my gate and lunge through it wrestle with the doorknob and hasten inside locking the bolt behind me my breathing is quickened I race around making sure the windows are locked the curtains drawn stillness has replaced the panic I felt yet I refuse to turn the lights on Breathing shallow now I listen to the door something is dragging itself up the footpath coming ever close something claws its fingers down the window I’m truly afraid now what if they try to barge their way in somehow I have no defense but a cane against the door what would be my first move to hit low then hit them in the face There is stillness now As I sink unto the floor tears of adrenalin have fallen from my eyes I will wait here until the morning shines it seems the safest route I ask the question again could my mind have made this up and my body just followed the lead or do super sensors exist and only come into play when the mind wants to truly exist DSF 1-23-2015☼
