A While Back Easy Rider was on TV this was a 1969 film about two counterculture bikers who travel from Los Angeles to New Orleans in search of America. Directed by Dennis Hopper. Written by Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda, and Terry Southern. What is amazing is what was said in that film waaaaay back in 1969 by Jack Nickolson playing George Hanson. Having viewed it at the time - the notion of freedom, UFOs and government went totally over my head nor had I realized that Jack Nickolson was even in the film as he was not that well known at the time. Worth a revisit as below: *************************** George Hanson: You know, this used to be a helluva good country. I cant understand whats gone wrong with it. Billy: Man, everybody got chicken, thats what happened. Hey, we cant even get into like, a second-rate hotel, I mean, a second-rate motel, you dig? They think were gonna cut their throat or somethin. Theyre scared, man. George Hanson: Theyre not scared of you. Theyre scared of what you represent to em. Billy: Hey, man. All we represent to them, man, is somebody who needs a haircut. George Hanson: Oh, no. What you represent to them is freedom. Billy: What the hell is wrong with freedom? Thats what its all about. George Hanson: Oh, yeah, thats right. Thats whats its all about, all right. But talkin about it and bein it, thats two different things. I mean, its real hard to be free when you are bought and sold in the marketplace. Of course, dont ever tell anybody that theyre not free, cause then theyre gonna get real busy killin and maimin to prove to you that they are. Oh, yeah, theyre gonna talk to you, and talk to you, and talk to you about individual freedom. But they see a free individual, its gonna scare em. Billy: Well, it dont make em runnin scared. George Hanson: No, it makes em dangerous. *************************** Billy: [while smoking a Joint] Oh wow! What? Whos that man? What the hell was that, man? Captain America: Huh? Billy: [nervous] No, man, like hey, man. Wow. I was watching this object man, li-like the satellite that we saw the other night, right? And, like, it was going right across the sky, man, and then... I mean it just suddenly, uh, it just changed direction and went whizzin right off, man. It flashed... Captain America: [interupting him] Youre stoned out of your mind, man. Billy: Oh, yeah. lm stoned, man. But, like, l saw a satellite. And it was going across the sky, and it flashed three times at me... ...and zigzagged and whizzed off. And l saw it. George Hanson: That was a UFO, beamin back at ya. Me and Eric Heisman was down in Mexico two weeks ago - we seen forty of em flying in formation. They-they-theyve got bases all over the world now, you know. Theyve been coming here ever since nineteen forty-six - when the scientists first started bouncin radar beams off of the moon. And they have been livin and workin among us in vast quantities ever since. The government knows all about em. Captain America?: What are you talking, man? George Hanson?: You just seen one of them, didnt you? Captain America?: l saw something, but l didnt see it working here. George Hanson?: Well, they are people, just like us - from within our own solar system. Except that their society is more highly evolved. I mean, they dont have no wars, they got no monetary system, they dont have any leaders, because, I mean, each man is a leader. I mean, each man - because of their technology, they are able to feed, clothe, house, and transport themselves equally - and with no effort... Captain America?: You know something? You want to know what l think? l think this is a crackpot idea. Thats what l think. How about that? Captain America?: Think its a crackpot idea. Captain America?: lf theyre so smart, why dont they reveal themselves... ...and get it over with? George Hanson: Why dont they reveal themselves to us is because if they did it would cause a general panic. Now, I mean, we still have leaders upon whom we rely for the release of this information. These leaders have decided to repress this information because of the tremendous shock that it would cause to our antiquated systems. Now, the result of this has been that the Venutians have contacted people in all walks of life - all walks of life. [laughs] Yes. It-it-it would be a devastatin blow to our antiquated systems - so now the Venutians are meeting with people in all walks of life - in an advisory capacity. For once man will have a god-like control over his own destiny. He will have a chance to transcend and to evolve with some equality for all.
