A Wisdom Council Take Away Last night, at the Women’s/ Men’s - TopicsExpress

A Wisdom Council Take Away Last night, at the Women’s/ Men’s Council, one of the council members shared some thoughts on a favorite fall activity, chopping and preparing firewood. Cut wood burns best, when it is seasoned, and allowed to dry over time. “Green” wood does not burn well at all; its flames have a difficult time lighting, and once lit, the heat is uneven, and the flame has lots of intermittent stops and starts. It was advised, that if you are going to burn green wood, its best to place the wood on top of an already burning pile of hot embers. Within the council, an analogy was made that, in a way, we are all like green wood. The flame of our inner spirit often has a hard time igniting, and when lit, burns unevenly. As we grow and develop, we become more “seasoned”, and our flame burns more steady, brighter and hotter. The analogy continued that spiritual practices (such as our wisdom councils) act similarly to the burning embers placed under the green wood, assisting with the igniting and burning of the “not-so-seasoned” wood of our soul. This is one of the reasons I love sitting in council!
