A Word for the Prophets It seems to me that, in general, we as prophets have forgotten that our primary imperative in the Body of Christ today…this moment in Father’s plan. We have become “caught up” (not rapturously… heh heh heh) in the “predicting”, the signs of the times, and political upheaval. The question we must ask ourselves is, is this Father’s purpose for us? The answer is a resounding NO! An examination of prophetic scripture (it doesn’t even have to be a close scrutiny) will clearly reveal that the “prediction” aspect of prophecy comes as a result of God’s people not heeding Father’s invitation to “return” to Him. Go and proclaim these things to the north: “‘Come back, unfaithful Israel. It is the LORD speaking. I will no longer frown on you because I’m merciful,’ declares the LORD. ‘I will no longer be angry with you. 13 Admit that you’ve done wrong! You have rebelled against the LORD your God. You have given yourself to strangers under every large tree. You have not obeyed me,’ declares the LORD.” Jeremiah 3:12-13, God’s Word Translation The purpose of God’s Man-the Prophet, is to call Father’s people to intimate relationship with Him. It is the invitation of Father’s deepest heart’s desire to fellowship with His folks. It is a relationship that will cause a change of heart resulting in changed thoughts and actions of his people. “That is why I will judge each of you by what you have done, people of Israel,” declares the Almighty LORD. “Change the way you think and act. Turn away from all the rebellious things that you have done so that you will not fall into sin. 31 Stop all the rebellious things that you are doing. Get yourselves new hearts and new spirits. Why do you want to die, nation of Israel? 32 I don’t want anyone to die,” declares the Almighty LORD. “Change the way you think and act!” Ezekiel 18:30-32, God’s Word Translation From the moment of Creation Father’s heart has been for relationship with His man. He looked forward to His walks and talks with His friend Adam “…in the cool of the day…” (Genesis 3:8). Father was excited to fellowship with the ones He had created. They were pure in spirit, soul and body. Their hearts were toward their Father God. Adam sinned and brought the curse of death and separation from the Father on all of mankind. Even so God has always had a people. All through history there have been a few whose hearts, eyes and ears were tuned to the Father. Sometimes there have been more, sometimes there have been less in numbers-but God has always had a people. And He has ALWAYS invited them to come deeper! Our evil heart with its desires and longings are what have separated us from intimacy with Father. The prophet’s mandate is to call God’s people to fellowship with Him. To walk in holiness without which NO MAN will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). The major component of the Prophets purpose is the gift of prophecy. This gift is intended to help God’s people grow, to encourage them, and to comfort them. (1Corinthians 14:3) This is our primary purpose! Father will certain, from time to time, declare predictive consequences as a result of not heeding His call, and warn His people of things to come. But that is NOT the primary directive. Frequently these ‘predictive’ declarations are preceded with “because you did not…”. The people’s hearts returning to the Father can stop those consequences. As a Watchman I am charged with the responsibility to warn His people. But I am NOT the only Watchman. And we call them prophets! We need to be careful to listen to their words…and their spirit. If those words are truly from the heart of the Father they will reveal His heart to draw His people closer. “The spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.” (1 Corinthians 14:32) Sometimes I find myself trying to speak like the prophets of old, even to the point of speaking “King Jimmy”. We need to be careful to hear the word Father is speaking to us at that moment, in the moment. Whenever possible test it by the Word to see that it truly speaks the heart of Father. And give it as He has given it to us…not Elijah. “Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.” 1 Corinthians 14:29, New King James Version Who is to judge the prophetic word? Primarily the other prophets. John does say in 1 John 4:1 that we should all try the spirits to see if they are of God. But prophetic utterances are to primarily be judged by the other prophets. Lastly, I want to encourage everyone that Father has given as a prophet to Christ’s Body…teach the other members within the range of your voice (or pen) how to be prophets. It does not mean they will be, but each part of Christ’s Body should know how The Five operate (See Ephesians 4:12, >context Ephesians 4:11-016
