A Year-round Market When Old Beach got started, back in 2008, the founders had a dream: bring the freshest local foods to the resort area. They knew this would benefit the entire food community—farmers, watermen, producers, residents and visitors. And it has. But no one could have envisioned that in just a few years there would be enough local produce to sell in January, or enough demand to get people to come to 19th Street on a cold winter day. The Third Saturday markets have been a revelation. Vendors and patrons have enthusiastically come, and talked, and shared. The winter market is thriving, with your support and encouragement. And it is a wonder. We now benefit from a 12-month growing season, thanks to demand for local products and the climate-stretching benefits of high and low tunnels. As our farmers add weeks to their growing season with new crops and varieties, we all reap the rewards of local production. Come see your friends and neighbors this Saturday. Celebrate how far we’ve come in a few short seasons. It may be cold, but there is always a warm greeting at Old Beach.
