A bailiff’s courage: It takes courage for a bailiff to speak - TopicsExpress

A bailiff’s courage: It takes courage for a bailiff to speak against a sitting judge. Jim Norman shows that courage. His experience in Judge McLean’s Court is not out of the ordinary, but his willingness to speak out is unusual. Judge McLean has never treated me unkindly, but I have heard from many who have. Bailiffs, court personnel, attorneys, plaintiffs and defendants have spoken to me on this matter to the degree that it seems wrong to ignore them. The issue is not prosecution vs. defense or conservative vs. liberal. The issue is proper respect within the courtroom. When the bench does not show respect to those appearing in court, then the respect for the court itself is diminished. It is unpleasant to ask the voters to intercede, but that is the correction provided for by our Constitution. Eric Ortner will be a tough and fair judge, who will assure proper treatment for all those who come into his court. Ronald A. Reed Attorney.
