A barrage of at least 25 rockets was fired from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel on Wednesday evening. There were no casualties. The IDFs Iron Dome system successfully intercepted three rockets. Lets see, 3 out of 25 interceptions is a 12% hit rate; not exactly a successful system, yet the US Government just sent Israel another $400 million to pay for more of the same. Cost per Iron dome missile, is $35,000 to $50,000 each (not including amortized cost of the launching systems). Cost of the home-made rockets used by Gaza (or Israelis playing at being Gazans), roughly $800, launched from a wood ramp. From a purely economic point of view, Israel is losing this battle, although Israel doesnt care because the American taxpayer picks up the tab.
