A beautiful day spent at the Chicago Cultural Center for the press conference announcing the new offices of the United States Artists taking the stage in Chicago. Ella Jenkins was honored with the USA Fellowship from the Collins Family in 2009. Ella was invited and acknowledged at the conference with another recipient, David Hartt. 35 Years of Public Art, Chicagos painters, sculptures, metal artists are being celebrated at the Cultural Center along with an astounding exhibit, MECCA Flats featuring a block long exhibit with full blown photos and renderings of the architecture & building that once stood on the IIT campus. The music will deepen your sense of time with Jazz from Joe Jordon, Woody Allen, Bessie Smith & Barbara Dane (a great friend of Ellas who shared the stage & late nights singing folk songs in places like the, Gate of Horn & The Barbarosa). The curator didnt miss a beat in creating this historic exhibit of one of Chicagos iconic buildings (the stories inside the walls & out made headlines). At The Chicago Cultural Center thru, May 25th.
