A beautiful human died last night. Her name is Nicole Sangsuree Barrett. She was one of my best friends for a few years, and despite that its been a long time since we were close, the fact that Im crying now tells me the positive effect she still has on my life. Everyone who knew her was made a better person for it. Ive watched her presence light-up a room already full of people, and Ive watched her awe passers-by into stunned silence with her voice (Gods, that voice! It was a force of nature). I remember playing guitar and singing together, and her laugh when I forgot a lyric or hit the wrong note. I remember her a cappella cover of The Way You Look Tonight – its always been one of the most beautiful pieces of music Ive ever heard.
