A beautiful poem written by a beautiful sister, Joyce Brooks-Wichman.. SLEEPLESS IN THE MOUNTAIN In the wee morning hours as I cannot fall asleep My cup of tea and me go outside on the back porch Making sure no critters are sleeping in my chair I sit to relax, like Ive done a thousand times before. Tonight I hear frogs loudest of all, happy for all the rain I look into the distance where all thats visible is trees In the winter a couple houses barely peek through But get covered up when spring comes, by the thicket. I listen to the frogs, and critters moving through the bushes In their own little world, so calm, where they feel safe The days of rain have sharpened and shined the greenery In the dark, I barely see the laurels and ivy twisting upward. Awww the mountains that have always been my home I stare at in the darkness, and see slight movements of leaves Through the thickness, I cannot see the world beyond Though Ive become restless to see it, I dont tire of the beauty here. Raising my eyes to the stars that begin where the mountain ends I hear myself sigh, as I see just how many stars are out They have been hidden for days by the rain clouds Tonight they twinkle as I search for shapes and patterns. Falling dew has made my hair lay heavy on my breast With a quick shiver, I come inside feeling now, I might sleep But not before I empty the left over tea in the cats dish For the raccoon thats been keeping an eye on me from the steps.
