A big debate is brewing in Congress about how to pay for the repair of the American Highway Infrastructure. Some think the answer is to raise taxes on fuel. Who is fooling who? Americans are getting ripped off by the gallon !!!!! With higher fuel mileage vehicles, Electric hybrids, The fuel consumption is down... Thus taxes collected are down. Easy way to change this, stop taxing the fuel. and tax the miles driven. The taxes could be collected or billed monthly,. That way its fair to everyone. Doesnt matter what type of energy you use. what matters is how much you drive that will determine how much road taxes you pay.!!!! BTW Americans drive over 2.9 trillion miles annually. And Its going to take 3.6 trillion dollars to fix all the roads and bridges by 2020 and there are over 190 million licensed drivers in the USA. that drive an average of 14,000 miles a year, that would be easy to figure out how much a mileage tax would need to be to take care of these damn roads. For example if that comes out to about 14 cents a mile over the next 6 years for ever mile driven, then lets work with that figure The less you drive the less you have to pay. Remember fuel is taxes from 30 to 50 cents per gallon which would go away if miles are taxed. That is if everyone is honest about it..and would go away if we tax the miles instead. In which would cost me about $175 a month Because I drive around 15,000 annually. This would give an incentive for more people to look at Alternative fuel vehicles.which in return would Also making us less dependent of fossil fuels. If they take the taxes complete off the fuel. I am sure some would agree and other would argue that this wouldnt work . But unless we change how we are doing it presently , How will we know unless we try. ( If you continue to beat your head again the door.. it eventually will open, but it would have been much easier to use the door knob , because it was unlocked,,,,)
