A bill was just proposed in the US House to amend the animal welfare act to prohibit the use of non-domesticated animals in circuses. In the words of Scott Miller, former Volunteer Coordinator (I thought he put this well) A lot of people have fond childhood memories of seeing lions, tigers, and elephants performing in circuses. Many parents still enjoy sharing this experience with their children today. But if you really, truly appreciate these magnificent animals then I hope you will find some compassion for them in your heart, and take time to understand the suffering they experience while performing in these shows. Ending the use of wild animals in circuses will be a great act of kindness. It will be something we can all be proud of.
