A birdwatching hike around the reserve this afternoon, in the light rain, produced 39 secies of bird. It may have been more if the rain wasnt slapping me in the eyes. Anyway the highlights were 2 Great White Egrets (sorry about the poor photo but taken with a phone, through a binocular eyepiece), 27 Little Egrets, 1 Bean Goose, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Water Rail, and 3 Redwing. It looks like Island Lake is becoming a mecca for the Egrets and Heron.
