A bit of a devotional to the children in my congregation before trunk-or-treat. Paul and Barnabas addressed the Jewish multitudes in Acts 13:47 NIV, For this is what the Lord has commanded us: I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth. It was suitable for a Halloween theme because after all, we all do live in a dark world, but Christians are the true light sources there are to be found, fueled by Christs sacrifice and Gods own Word. But I recall what John 3:19 states: This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Now if thats not spooky to you then I dont know what would be. Remember my story about going to downtown Greek Bros. to check out some of the local musical talent last summer? Thats exactly what Im talking about here. The only real lighting came from the stage platform, but it was almost dark everywhere else. How could people acclimate to that? And yet they do... Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed, John 3:20 then states. Again, Im reminded of the SAME people. Its no wonder I was ghost in about 5 min out of that place. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God, reads John 3:21. Its scary, isnt it? Even Adolf Hitler was afraid of the dark, and thats saying a lot for somebody who was the quintessential embodiment of pure evil. If even evil people do not like the darkness, how great is that darkness! Anyway, I hope this post didnt scare you too much. That horned demon in the dark space roaring behind you(1 Peter 5:8), hes not real... or IS HE???
