A bit of industry politics... Even though I am a Clinical member of the ASCP (Association of Soul Centred Psychotherapists), and have Clinical level registration with PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia), and am on the ARCAP register (Australian Register for Counselling and Psychotherapy), I am NOT currently supported by Medicare because I dont work within the limited modality of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Medibank Private covers psychotherapy/counselling in one of its extras packages but no other health fund does. Communicating to your private health insurer and asking them to cover psychotherapy/counselling may help to change this situation so that you can be supported financially in seeking therapy in all of its diversity. CBT works really well for some people but therapy simply isnt a one size fits all experience.
