A brief agenda faced the Webster City City Council late Monday afternoon. Two council members, Matt McKinney and Logan Welch were both absent from the meeting. Without any objection, the council approved the third and final reading on the ordinance for the zoning of detached garages in the city. The first amendment of the ordinance states a garage not being built on a lot not being built before the principle building.The second amendment to the ordinance states that a detached garage cannot be larger than the dwelling. The ordinance was passed and adopted. The council approved the transfer of ownership and payment for the Brewer Creek Housing Project. The project is for the payment of all materials,equipment and labor needed for the construction of three houses at 2403 and 2405 Rodlyn Road and at 2404 Kamen Drive. The total amount of the purchase of the three homes is $609,352. The homes were constructed by Heritage Homes of Nebraska of Wayne,Nebraska and assembled on site by Lasco Construction Services,Incorporated of Ames. Two public hearings were a part of the council agenda. The first one was for the water plant filter replacement project. The council awarded a contract to C.L. Carroll of Des Moines for a bid of $840,000. It was recommended that while the work is underway ,that the water not be softened during the filter replacement process. Work on the filter replacement will begin in the next few weeks. The second hearing was for the booster station watermain replacement project. The contract was awarded to J and K Contracting L.L.C. of Ames in the amount of $89,920. The project is for all materials, labor and equipment to replace 1,080 feet of an existing 12 inch diameter water main on the west side of Webster City. The project will begin at a date to be announced. The Webster City City Council Monday approved the request of Deb Brown of the Webster City Chamber of Commerce to close a portion of Des Moines to Second Street for the final Summer Night event on Friday,August 15 from 5 until 9 p.m. The theme will be Back to School. The chamber will serve burgers, chips and a drink for those attending. There will also be an appearance by the Webster City Fire Department, the U.S. Army and other local groups. The request to close Second Street from Seneca to Des Moines and Des Moines from Second to First Streets for the RV TV event on September 8 was also approved by the council. WHO Television will be coming to Webster City to celebrate the Iowa-Iowa State football game on September 13. This will be a repeat appearance of last years highly successful event downtown with displays, food, appearances by the Iowa and Iowa State mascots and more. The event will be from 2:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. September 8th.
