A caged egg producer called Craddock Farms is in the process of gaining consent to build what will be the biggest intensive egg factory farm in New Zealand. The facility will house up to 310,000 caged hens and produce up to 113 million eggs a year. The proposed site is in Patumahoe, Franklin district (between the Auckland metropolitan area and the Waikato Plains). A group of Patumahoe residents are outraged by plans for the new factory farm and have started a campaign to stop it. You can support their campaign by joining their Facebook page and (if you’re in the area) signing their petition to the Auckland Council.
