A candle was meant to give light Luke 11:33 “No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.” Years ago, many years ago, when I was a kid I can remember times out on the farm when during the night we would have thunder storms that would cause our electricity to go out. Back in those days we kept candles in the house just for that purpose. We’d also at times have some oil lamps we could light. The candles were useless, for light that is, until they were light; and then it is amazing how much light one candle can give off in a dark home. Basically candles were manufactured to give light, and when they were ignited they would do just that. Oh, one thing I remember; we never lit a candle and placed it under a bushel or hid it is a closet; we would have defeated our purpose. Light in the Bible is a type of knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. We believers call it the gospel light. It is the truth about God, Jesus, salvation, and all the aspects of the Christian life. When we get saved we receive light from the Lord; and as grow in the Lord we receive more light. Then through the years we receive even more light from God; light that this world desperately needs! It is the responsibility of every believer to gain all the light he or she can and give it out to others. Jesus never saved a soul to hide it under a bushel.
