A case of measles has made its way to Arizona, from someone that visited Disneyland. While thats unfortunate, I dont understand how its national news. If there were thousands of cases, yes, but one? No. On that note, they are pushing the MMR vaccine now more than EVER. The CDC says: The MMR vaccine prevents measles and 2 other viral diseases—mumps and rubella. These 3 vaccines are safe given together. MMR is an attenuated (weakened) live virus vaccine. This means that after injection, the viruses grows and causes a harmless infection in the vaccinated person with very few, if any, symptoms. With all of Saffs health issues, obviously we arent injecting our kids with anything we dont have to - especially not a live vaccine, when she has a family history of bad interactions with vaccinations (though none personally as she hasnt been vaccinated). With that being said, getting measles when you have asthma can be extremely dangerous. So, heres to staying measles-free and having a very uneventful 2015.
