A century before the American Revolution, there were a series of revolts in the American colonies that foreshadowed what was to happen both in the British Isles in 1688-90, and the colonies at the same time. The revolts were against the colonial authorities anti-Puritan measures that were enacted under Charles II and James II, which were intent on establishing Anglicanism while also making things favourable for Catholics. What did happen in the colonies around 1689 more or less settled things until 1776. Perhaps there are parallels to be drawn between 1688 and 1776. A common thread, dare I say, being Whig hypocrisy. An extension of liberty? Yeah right! Even among our Unionist allies in Scotland and Northern Ireland, there are some, umm, inconvenient facts...
