A certain series of books titled Wheat Belly, which denounces - TopicsExpress

A certain series of books titled Wheat Belly, which denounces consumption of wheat products, was absolutely ripped to shreds by.....yknow.....actual science. lol Please, unless you actually suffer from Celiac Disease, theres no physiological reason to avoid gluten. Books like these, as well as the diets that go along with them, are nothing more than lies used to sell you things. The very studies that originally supported the idea of gluten sensitivity were then revisited by the same lead researcher......who suddenly realized they were wrong. Its all in your head. When people who claimed to be sensitive were put through proper testing, there were no physiological signs that they were, indeed, reacting to gluten. Its only when theyre aware of its presence that they basically make themselves sick. Heres a link to the study performed: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23648697 Conclusion: In a placebo-controlled, cross-over rechallenge study, we found no evidence of specific or dose-dependent effects of gluten in patients with NCGS (Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) placed diets low in FODMAPs. As with basically anything else we eat, its fine when taken in moderation. Dont stuff yourself full of food of any kind, drink plenty of water, and get some exercise in. Now, there ARE conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome that can produce results very similar to those claimed by sensitive eaters. Again, no physiological reason has ever surfaced for what causes IBS. Its all in your head, and your brain carries a special connection to your GI tract. If youre stressed or anxious, your large intestine can become spasmodic. As your intestines spasm, clench, etc. they can create pockets of gas, as well as blockages. When you suffer from a blockage, pressure builds and you become bloated. A blockage can also occur at the opening of the biliary duct, which is where bile from your liver and gallbladder is introduced to your digesting food. This can cause more serious issues such as jaundice and acute gallbladder attacks/infections. Your appendix can be affected in much the same way, with a blockage moving to cover the opening as fecal matter fills it up. Left untreated, IBS can also potentially lead to diverticulitis, a condition where pockets form in the lining of your large intestine in an outward motion. This tends to be caused by regularly struggling with bowel movements, as the walls can only take so much pressure before something has to give. It normally occurs in elderly people, or others with particularly weak/damaged intestines, but repeated constipation can cause it in otherwise healthy people. Increasing soluble fiber and water intake, as well as avoiding cellulose-rich foods like fruit peelings, can alleviate your suffering, but your stress/anxiety/depression/etc. needs to be addressed for any kind of long-term relief. So please, just because you get gassy and cramped after eating foods, dont go around thinking youre sensitive to whatever ingredient. In all likelihood, theres something(s) on your mind, or you actually have a neurological disorder of whatever sort. Our digestive tracts are quite sensitive to our emotions. Why do you think you fart or your stomach gurgles when youre on a first date? lol
