A chilling message we received in response to our post the other day. Shared anonymously but with consent of the OP. I would be happy to share some stories from being a nurse forced to assist with circumcision... What you posted is not far from the truth. Often times babies arent medicated at all even if theyve told the parents differently. If they are given medication, its given improperly or they dont wait the recommended time for it to work. Ive personally watch physicians botch circ after circ without any repercussions to the damage theyve done. Its so common its nearly routine to have additional procedures needed to stop bleeding because too much was removed. I even watched a newer physician circ the same baby three times and Im confident that it will require a revision and theyve probably have more damage done than can be undone. Ive also seen newborns nearly die from blood loss due to unknown clotting problems. The procedure is barbaric, cruel and completely unjust. Nurses are also forced to assist with them or loose their jobs. Any cosmetic, elective procedure that costs a mere couple hundred dollars cash including the anesthesia should obviously indicate a problem. A basic checkup for a dog costs more and is handled with more dignity. Not to forget, many mothers give up breastfeeding because they are forced to withhold feedings for at least two hours before the procedure and the newborn will often refuse feedings after the procedure. This procedure disrupts the dyad and is detrimental to the mother baby bond. THANK YOU, OP, FOR SPEAKING UP AGAINST THIS TERRIBLE PRACTICE! -Joe
