A comment i put on Mmk Karen site: I began in an all original band in the late 70s in Sydney, Sweet Poison! We got supports with all the top bands at the time, did poster runs, lugged the main acts MASSIVE PA at 3.00 pm in the afternoon, waited til they did a sound check played for 3 hours to a crowd who stood up against the back wall like we were terrorists, yelling at us Play some Cold chisel ya poofters! Then we waited til they had finished to lug out again. (we got paid about $200.00 This lasted for about 5 years! after name changes and line up changes the band went for 15 more years!!! More recently Future Native did a tour of Canada and the US for CMW and SXSXW and we financed it our selves, drove from Toronto to London in black snow to play to 2 people and we took the door! haha The trouble with this country is that the priorities are all about sport and not about music and yet we have all these reality shows that have Superstars cause they sang half a song! Where are the bands? Slogging it out week after week to try and record, market and play on a shoestring. Ive been playing professionally all my life and im 58, im still hanging up posters, music is my life! People like Karen should be praised! Id be meeting with her, talking about marketing, spending time to really make it an EVENT! Bands should be really grateful of an opportunity to play and do everything in their power to make it successful. We used to do the circuit and build our following by supporting well known bands.
