A commercial with a child in a lion costume came on tonight. Fi scoffed a little, and said that costume isnt that good, you know. Its not a very good job, it doesnt look much like a lion. MINE is the cutest. On a day like today - feeling hostile, volatile, and wound tight for no identifiable reason - it was once again the candid words of my child that filled my heart with pride, love, and calm. I searched endlessly for the perfect fabrics and spent hours awkwardly learning to use a pattern and my machine. I sewed for hours on end, days of bleeding fingers and back pain, I broke 15 needles and broke down in tears a time or two. I swelled with pride and accomplishment when I finished, all the while reconciling with the fact that after Halloween it would be forgotten by everyone but me. . .the fact that Fi still wears her lion costume almost daily is enough to melt my heart; to still hear the appreciation and pride in her voice after several months brought on a silent fist pump and a whole lot of cartwheels in my mind! ;) She probably wont remember it much longer. . .but for now, both of my children remind me that no matter how Im feeling or what the world thinks, Im still a rock star in their eyes. :)
