A common primate scenario; passing the buck. For example, a middle ranking female comes across a favourite food source, looks around to see if anyone is watching, then slowly moves to pick it up. But just as she is doing so, the alpha male comes into view and she recognises that he has seen her. Instant acknowledgement of guilt. She then directs her gaze at a lower ranking female. Her chin is jutted forward ad her eyebrows are raised. She is passing the buck; indicating to the male that it is the lower ranking female at fault. As this is the primate way, it is no surprise to witness the most destructive and over-populated problem animal of all laying the blame on other species by labeling them as problem animals who are targeted in a variety of cruel ways. Our innate nature is driving us towards an environmental point of no return. And if we recognise that, and tap into the mythical superior intelligence we have claimed as our own, perhaps we could find a constructive strategy that would really work to bring about change. Tragically, this is highly unlikely. Our primal drives dictate our future.
