A community comprises of many dynamics; common interest, culturally unified, a group of people with similar features and characteristics, an area essentially governed by its own population, thus they are the Vanguard of that centralized location being that of a community. Now ask yourself why do you think gentrification is taking place in every impoverished neighborhood consisting of blacks across America? Is it because we do not own enough estate or businesses in those areas? Is it due to our lack of possession of enough capital for negotiating? Essentially were socioeconomically weak therefore we are not a community, only a group of people centralized in a location. Think about your neighboring ethnic groups such as Chinese, Arabs, Indians, are they protesting against gentrification? Is it a social issue for them? No, their community is untainted consequently its still a homogeneous society. Why? Well for one they have estate, capital, essentially they are the Vanguard for their community. Try and go to Chinatown buying up property if you can and see what happens. Now go to the so-called black community and investigate to see who all owns what and who. Understand you can disenfrancize a group of people by deprivation of resources and necessities. The kumbaya rhetoric will go out the door once them ribs start rubbing. Now I am aware that there are repellent forces that uses discrimination on black own businesses that keeps many of us out the economic pool. The problem with that is we do not practice group economics, which is a key attribute of a community which denotes to social cohesion. Example: Detroit lost its community 50 plus years ago after the riots which was indeed stemmed from injustice of the police because blacks were unified and had a common interest back then versus presently, what steps have Detroiters holistically taken for Aiyana Jones? In addition, Detroiters actually owned significant amount of bussinesses and had capital in the 40s 50s from Black bottom (where Marvin Gaye, Berry Gordy resided) to all down woodward, now we are either crabs in the bucket or racing to anything non black to reside.
