A congressional candidate in Utah said today in his speech that when he interviewed his father and asked him what the best day of his life was, he didnt say the day he was married or the day any of his children were born — he said the best day of his life was when Truman nuked Japan. I about fell over in my chair. 1. What in the world does that have to do with the congressional race? He didnt even try to apply the story to anything. He just mentioned it, and then moved on to something unrelated. 2. What kind of barbaric tendencies lead a person to choose the incineration of hundreds of thousands of people—and the permanent maiming of many more—as the best day of his life? 3. Fortunately, this story received applause from about three people out of over 4,000, perhaps showing the bewilderment that others, like myself, felt. -- Connor Boyack
