A consultation process for organisations and employers to submit - TopicsExpress

A consultation process for organisations and employers to submit their views on the financial support offered to mobilised Reservists is currently underway. The Ministry of Defence outlined their commitment to improve the relationship between Defence and the employers of Reservists in the 2013 White Paper ‘Reserves in the Future Force 2020: Valuable and Valued’. As part of their commitment, Defence Relationship Management has been established, incentive payments of up to £500 per mobilised reservists per month for SMEs have been introduced, and annual communication between Reservists’ Commanding Officers and line managers has been instigated. The Ministry of Defence are now seeking employers’ views on how they can enhance this existing element of support. Under SI859 employers and Reservists are entitled to claim financial assistance for expenses which have occurred as a result of an employee being mobilised. As these regulations have not been updated for some time, consultations with interested parties have indicated that there are several ways in which the regulations could be improved to meet the requirements of employers. The proposed changes have been outlined in a consultation document, with the aim of these changes to bring a benefit to employees with Reservists in their organisations. There is also a reduction to the additional pay cap available to mobilised Reservists, which is currently set in excess of the current (or foreseen) requirement. The Ministry of Defence is therefore asking for all interested employers and organisations to complete a consultation questionnaire, and help to shape the future of their regulations. The regulations will then be updated next year following the consultation. The consultation document and questionnaire can be downloaded from the Gov.uk website here: buff.ly/1pRZX9x All completed questionnaires must be submitted to the email address listed in the documentation by the 17th December 2014.
