A contemporary fantasy i wrote at the age of 14... THE COLOURS OF LIFE It was the time when‘Prithvi’- the earth was a plain white planet with some black tints in it. To this lived all the birds and animals peacefully. The mighty ‘Vidhata’ was the king of the earth. Once there was a severe drought when rains did not turn up. The natives faced many problems due to the lack of food and water. Animals and birds in hundreds died everyday. ‘Vidhata’ called a meeting of his nobles to think over the matter. One of the experienced minister found a solution to this. He explained that far away from earth stood a colourful planet called ‘Parilok’. To this many beautiful fairies and angels with different powers lived. The princess of rain also lived there. So the king decided to send ‘Pankhi’- the peacock as his messenger toParilok to find a solution to this problem. Pankhi at once started for Parilok. He travelled for many days and nights, finally reached the planet. It was a wonderful place to have existed in the universe. It was full of different colours that Pankhi’s eyes had never seen. All the natives bore different colours and were looking very attractive. His eyes gleamed as he waded through the land. On reaching the palace, the queen of Parilok, ‘Pari’ welcomed him warmly. The royalfamily had beautiful wings. The queen had a golden crown and a golden magic wand. All eyes were stuck at Pankhi, as he was plain and colourless. It was an unusual sight in Parilok. After having meal, the queen askedPankhithe reason for his visit to Parilok. As they were talking, seven little girls came in giggling and laughing along with the princess ‘Varsha’. Varsha was the daughter of the queen and princess of rain. The seven girls were gifted with seven colours of the universe. They all were dressed in different coloured gowns, while Varsha was all white like a goddess. The queen introduced them to Pankhi and afterwards asked the girls to leave them alone to have a talk. On asking again by the queen, Pankhi narrated the whole matter to the queen. The queen was worried as she had the solution to the problem but her heart would not accept that. This was because Varsha was the last rain angel to be left on the planet, all other rain princesses and angels were sent to far away planets. At night Varsha asked Pari, the reason of her worry. Pari told her the problem of Pankhi and his land. Varsha at once agreed to help Pankhi and go along with him to ‘Prithvi’. She consoled her mother by saying, “The royal family should never be bound by emotions when it comes to fulfilling their duties.” Moreover she asked Pari to be happy with her decision as it was the time she had been waiting for all these years. The next day Varsha and her seven friends bade farewell to their friends and relatives. They were prepared to go withPankhi.Pankhithanked the queen for her gratitude and great sacrifice for the people of Prithvi. Finally Varsha took the queen permission to leave and off they went flying along with Pankhi. In a day or two the earth was flooded with water due to the arrival of Varsha. Thereafter the seven angels spread their beautiful colours all over and made the earth colourful. This made the earth a splendid planet thereafter. From that day onwards three fourth of earth is covered with water and the earth is also referred to as ‘The watery planet’.Pankhihad all the colours in his wings as she was the carrier of all the angels and Varsha. Varsha had to live all alone in the ‘Ambar Palace’while her friends had to live with the ‘SuryaDev’. Varsha being away from her friends and Pari missed them. So whenever she cried, there were heavy rains on the earth. Seeing this Surya Devshone brightly after the rains stopped and sent her friends to meet Varsha. The seven coloured rainbow was visible on the horizon due to their meeting, seeing which Pankhi danced joyfully and expressed his happiness.
