A couple great upcoming events from Nadi Cinema here at the U of A. **September 18** Mullins Library Room 104 7-9pm Reel Bad Arabs, An Evening with Dr. Jack G. Shaheen Dr. Jack G. Shaheen is the leading media critic and chronicler of American popular representation of the Middle East. Join us for a special Nadi Cinema screening and discussion of his documentary, "Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People (2007)". **September 19** Giffels Auditorium 7-9pm The King Fahd Center at the University of Arkansas is pleased to announce “American Images of the Middle East: Problems and Prospects”, a special guest lecture by author and documentarian Dr. Jack Shaheen. The lecture will take place on Thursday, September 19th at 7pm in Giffels Auditorium, and is free and open to the public. Internationally acclaimed author and media critic, Dr. Jack G. Shaheen is a committed internationalist and a devoted humanist. A Pittsburgh native and former CBS news consultant on Middle East Affairs, Shaheen’s lectures and writings illustrate that damaging racial and ethnic stereotypes of Asians, blacks, Native Americans and others injure innocent people. He defines crude caricatures, explains why they persist, and provides workable solutions to help shatter misperceptions. Dr. Shaheen is the author of Nuclear War Films, Arab and Muslim Stereotyping in American Popular Culture, The TV Arab and the award-winning book and film Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People, and has appeared on national network programs such as CNN, MSNBC, National Public Radio, Nightline, Good Morning America, 48 Hours, and The Today Show.
