A couple of months ago, Nancy Gibson Ballenger posted on the Ambassador board a “Save the Date” for the Kansas City Area Council (KCAC) event that “Salutes Enchanting Women of District III.” I looked at this posting and thought, what fun to attend, and immediately called my cohort in crime, Kathy Gallagher to see if she would go with me. With a resounding yes, plans were put into place. Nancy connected us to Kathleen Richer who is an absolutely phenomenal hostess. She picked us up at the airport, gave us a tour of the area, ensured these Florida women were warm, she fed us and provided cups, soaps and beds with our names prominently displayed. We felt so welcomed! Friday night was a get together where we connected with ABWA sisters and met new friends. Dinner was wonderful as we laughed and exchanged stories. The Saturday luncheon was the big event. We got in lots of hugs through the receiving line and Jennie Ausse Darby started the day welcoming all attendees. Nancy Tudor Griffin gave a fun speech about changing times, Meg Mundy Bell told us about the City of Overland Park’s motto, “Above and Beyond by Design,” and isn’t that what Hillary Bufton did when he created ABWA? Lorie Burch had a fun and uplifting speech and had us looking into the next 65 years of ABWA. The highlight of the event came after lunch when the co-chairs Becky Adney and Nancy Ballenger started the show. Each chapter had a presenter who introduced their Woman of the Year and Top Ten Nominee. Gifts created by Patty Bundi and Kim Dixon were provided to each attendee and it truly was an inspiring afternoon to hear about the achievements of these women and the impact they have on their chapter. Becky was so cute with a 30 seconds card that she waved in the air, vigorously I might add, to warn presenters their time limit was about up. All in all, Kathy Gallagher and I boarded our plane excited about our next adventure. A big thank you again to Kathy Richer and her Good Guy husband Gary for their hospitality and being our tour guide and congratulations to KCAC on a wonderful event.
