A couple of weeks ago I sent an email to Lord John Thurso - MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross. I told him of my dissatisfaction at his decision to back Fracking and the Infrastructure Bill to allow it to happen below peoples homes without consent... This was his speedy reply to me this afternoon... I am delighted to say this Cements my opinion of him and his party (Libdems) #Votesnp #votegreen #Greensurge #Libdemout With regard to the infrastructure bill I voted in favour at 2nd reading because of the main measures in the bill and even if I objected to fracking would still have given 2nd reading consent. With regard to fracking I have also done considerable research and on balance conclude that it is a technology which has similar risk/reward characteristics to offshore drilling and a number of other technologies. Shale gas is a low carbon fossil fuel. We need such energy to cover the transition to renewables and I am therefore not inclined to rule it out. I believe the extra safeguards which come with the bill will ensure a soundly regulated system. Kind regards John Thurso - Liberal Democrats - Caithness, Sutherland and EasterRoss.
