A couple of weeks ago I was visiting Port Orchard and hadnt been up from California in a couple of years. As I always do I walked downtown to see what was still there and what wasnt and to relive all of my childhood memories, from the D & R movie theater, going to Myhers for lunch, and shopping. I was so sad walking from empty store to empty store... and the ones that were still there or open didnt have much. Myhers was closed due to a fire and the sign said it was sold but nothing had been done on it. My questions is this: What are the community leaders of Port Orchard doing to revitalize the town? This is a beautiful little town with great people and history that is slowly but surely dying. I remember in the 70s when the Mariana was build and the merchants build overhangs on Bay Street sidewalks so if it was raining you wouldnt get wet while being in town. The good citizens of PO need to stand up and ask their community leaders to get going. Not only does this drop your property values it takes away the closeness of growing up in a small town. I have good memories growing up in small town of Port Orchard and even thought I havent lived there in a long time, I hate to see it die a little more every time I come to visit. Good Luck!! I think it is very clear to see that the people that are members on this site have a lot of wonderful memories and care about Port Orchard. I hope you will be successful for the future of all of your children.
