A couple of years back, Brad Wray and Nick Russo commenced their architectural practice, Branch Studio, and work started coming in. The problem was, they had no dedicated work space but needed one and quickly. Russo’s father offered a site near the picker’s sheds on the family’s Officer orchard, and Brad and Nick went out into the farm paddocks to retrieve from the piles of detritus some of the building material they required. Orchard Studio is an odd shape but is roughly one room 5.5 metres wide by 6.7 metres long, with deep in-built desking, ply lining and a refreshing outlook to the fruiting trees. “Apart from the framing, we built it ourselves”, says Wray. “It was to be our play and explore space.
