A couple people recently took issue with me about the overemphasis of preachers today on the subject of Christs blood. History records the Kidron River flowing red with the blood of sacrificed animals. It was a graphic description of the consequence of sin. If one is queazy about blood then how are they going to handle the death of Christ on a cross? Blood is necessary for covenant binding. Blood is necessary for sanctification. Blood is necessary to pay for sins. I wonder why God so over emphasized it for 2000 years! Everyone wants to sanitize religion today. Dont mention sin. Dont hurt anyones feelings. For Gods sake dont talk about blood! Preach the Jesus of love not the Jesus riding on a horse with a sword in his mouth and a sickle in his hand. Lets just preach the good parts of the gospel not the bad parts. Its just not P.C. to frighten people. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall have eternal life. Lets just snip out the part about perishing shall we? Its unlike Jesus to say that. I guess we should toss baptism and communion because they involve blood. While were at it lets toss repentance and Christlike living and replace them with faith alone mental assent. Heaven forbid anyone get the wrong idea that God actually requires something of us, that his love is conditional on our response to him, or that it actually cost Christ his life and shed blood to save us. Matthew 5:25 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26 I tell you the truth, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
