A couple weeks ago, the Navy landing craft LCI 713 -- the last remaining WWII amphibious warfare vessel in the country -- was moved to its new berth off Swan Island (pier 307 at Vigor Shipyard). This is a pretty amazing bit of naval history to have in our locale. It is now moored next to another historic ship, PT 658, a restored WWII motor torpedo boat. Both of these vessels are essentially floating museums and they welcome visitors. LCI 713 is usually open Thursdays and Saturdays, by appointment. PT 658 offers tours Mondays and Thursdays. This might make a great group outing!
